  • Leadership and Management:
    Key grips supervise the grip crew, delegating tasks, and ensuring the team works efficiently. 
  • Technical Expertise:
    They have a deep understanding of camera support, rigging, and lighting equipment. 
  • Problem-Solving:
    They are adept at troubleshooting technical issues and finding solutions on set. 
  • Safety:
    Key grips enforce safety protocols and ensure the well-being of the crew and actors. 
  • Collaboration:
    They work closely with the Director of Photography (DoP) and Gaffer to translate the director's vision into reality. 
  • Before Filming:
    They analyze the script, scout locations, and plan equipment needs. 
  • During Filming:
    They manage the grip crew, oversee rigging, and ensure the smooth execution of shots. 
  • Equipment Management:
    They keep track of all grip equipment, ensuring it's properly maintained and available when needed. 
  • Building and Rigging:
    They are responsible for building and rigging camera supports, lighting setups, and other necessary equipment. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrive before shooting and meet with producer 
  • Prior to shooting meet with camera team
  • Setup lighting for all shots
