Sound Engineer/ Recordist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audio Capture:
    The primary responsibility is to capture all audio on set, including dialogue, sound effects, and ambient sounds. 
  • Equipment Management:
    Setting up and operating various audio equipment, such as microphones (boom mics, lavalier mics), mixers, and recording devices. 
  • Collaboration:
    Working closely with the director, director of photography (DoP), and other crew members to understand the creative vision and ensure that the audio captures the intended atmosphere. 
  • Troubleshooting:
    Identifying and resolving any audio-related issues that may arise during filming, such as background noise, echo, or equipment malfunctions. 
  • Sound Design:
    In some cases, sound recordists may also contribute to the overall sound design, by recording "wild tracks" of ambient sound to fill gaps in the editing process or to add to a scene. 
  • Timecode Synchronization:
    Ensuring that the audio recording is synchronized with the camera's timecode to facilitate smooth editing. 
  • Team Leadership:
    On larger productions, they may oversee a team of boom operators and sound assistants. 

Essential Skills:

  • Technical Knowledge:
    A strong understanding of audio equipment, recording techniques, and sound mixing principles. 
  • Aural Skills:
    The ability to discern subtle differences in sound quality and identify potential issues. 
  • Attention to Detail:
    Meticulous attention to detail is crucial for capturing high-quality audio and ensuring that all necessary sounds are recorded. 
  • Problem-Solving:
    The ability to troubleshoot and find creative solutions to audio-related challenges. 
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    Excellent communication skills are essential for working effectively with the director and other crew members. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrive early on site to connect with crew to ensure equipped and ready
  • Connect with camera staff to address needs
  • Review storyboard to get an advance layout

Must Have

  • Experience recording live performances 

Nice to have

  • Experience in in production site recording
  • Own Equipment
